Testimonials

by Franchisee Testimonial: Tanya Ferber

What made you decide to open a Senior Helpers location in your community? Why not something else?
I had spent over 20 years in leadership, operations and performance improvement positions in the healthcare space. I was moved to make a career change when my family and I returned to Fargo allowing me to provide a valuable service to others in my hometown, working collaboratively with families to determine personalized care plans to keep loved ones safe and happy at home, reducing hospital admissions and the need for higher cost care which is so important.

What excites you most about opening your Senior Helpers business?
I was most excited to take control of my professional career path and do something that was meaningful to me again. I wanted to stop asking myself "is this really how I am going to spend the last 20 years of my career?"

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about being able to give family members, especially those that live at a distance peace of mind knowing that we are there to service, support, and enrich the life of their loved one.

Tell us a little about your family (Married? Kids? Pets?) and/or what accomplishments are you most proud of?
My husband Jeff and I have been married for 20 years. We have two children, Carter (Freshman in college) and Chloe (Sophmore in High School), and three fur babies; Norman (guinea pig), Kona (Bernedoodle) and Finn (Goldendoodle).

What do you enjoy doing during your spare time?
When I am not working on my businesses, I enjoy traveling especially in the winter months and spending time with my family at the lake in the summer months.

Do you volunteer in your community or are there any special charities or social causes that are meaningful to you? If so, please share where and why?
I am the Chair of the Senior Coalition in my area. I also participate in our local Start Up Brew where entrepreneurs, innovators, creatives, and community members alike come together and explore the entrepreneurial journey.

What made you decide to open a Senior Helpers location in your community? Why not something else?
My wife Bette and I researched several franchise companies and found the offering from Senior Helpers was the true information needed to make a decision. The other companies were more interested in receiving our check than explaining what it will take to be successful and what the true investment will be. Existing franchisees were also encouraging and helpful.

What excites you most about opening your Senior Helpers business?
We became excited after meeting many members of the corporate staff and learned of the support provided to make sure we did not fail building our first and additional territories.

What are you passionate about?
Our decision to be a Senior Helpers owner stemmed from the fact we are a disease centric company helping folks with health challenges. There is not much more rewarding than providing peace of mind to a family knowing the people they love are cared for.

Tell us a little about your family (Married? Kids? Pets?) and/or what accomplishments are you most proud of?
Bette and I have been married for almost twenty years and have one daughter, Elizabeth graduating from Fr. Lopez High School and is going to attend UCF or UF studying speech pathology. I am on the Foundation Board of Haven Hospice finding my volunteer commitment very rewarding.

What do you enjoy doing during your spare time?
Bette is an avid tennis player and when I am not working, golf takes over.

Do you volunteer in your community or are there any special charities or social causes that are meaningful to you? If so, please share where and why?
Haven Hospice and Elder Source board are important community service. Also, Bread of Life Ministry through our Catholic church helps feed poor and homeless folks.

by Franchisee Testimonial: Bob Nations

After retiring from a long and successful career in the toy industry, Bob Nations decided to feed his entrepreneurial spirit and take on a new business venture. At the same time, Nations and his family were forced to put his grandmother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s, into a nursing home due to the lack of suitable in-home care options. His grandmother sadly passed away six months later and Nations decided to open a Senior Helpers franchise in her honor. Since then, Nations has been providing his community with the first-rate senior care that he once could not find and has built his business into one of Senior Helpers top franchises.

“The one thing I wasn’t aware of when I started was how great and rewarding my job can be. It’s amazing the impact we have on people’s lives each and every day.”
Why did you decide to become a Senior Helpers Franchisee?
Being an entrepreneur at heart, after retirement I began looking for new business opportunities. At this time, my grandmother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s, fell and broke her hip. Due to a lack in adequate in-home care options I was forced to move her into a nursing home where she passed away just six short months later. The death served as a beacon to me, shortly thereafter, I decided to invest in a home care franchise in her honor. I sought senior care franchises that offered renowned dementia care, excellent coaching programs and those with proven business models in place.

What were the first goals you set while starting the business?
I quickly set three goals for this new business; (I) to be the best, not the biggest, (II) be in the top 10% of all Senior Helpers franchises and (III) give back to the community.

What is your favorite part of being a Senior Helpers Franchisee?
Beyond monetary success, my favorite part of being a Senior Helpers franchisee has been the ability to give to the community what was once unavailable to me – a quality in-home care choice that gives families peace of mind.

What has been your biggest surprise with this business?
The one thing I wasn’t aware of when I started was how great and rewarding my job can be. It’s amazing the impact we have on people’s lives each and every day.

What made you decide to open a Senior Helpers location in your community? Why not something else?
Senior home care felt right to us, given we experienced it firsthand with our parents. We understand the need, understand how real it is, and from a business perspective understand that the demand is only going to become greater as people continue to age and live longer.

What excites you most about opening your Senior Helpers business?
Our opportunity to open up our own business where we have a chance to bet on ourselves. Also, the ability to build a company that's purposed-based with a mission to help. A company we can scale, that can become a legacy for others to benefit from in the future.

What are you passionate about?
Building a company that helps others and gives back.
